What is Astrology?
It is the relation between
the position of the planets and the impact of these positions on earth and
hence on the lives which live on the planet. It may be considered a
pseudoscience but has been in existence for centuries and have looked to it for
guidance and solutions. People who believe in it follow it religiously. Some renowned
people have used it as a powerful tool to understand themselves and their
relation and thus their reactions to those around them. This helps them know
the road map of life.
It has been believed since
long that the stars have guided humans and animals alike. It is believed that the
astronomical positions of the planets and Sun, Moon, comets etc at the time of
a person’s birth have a direct influence on that person’s character, personality,
success or failures. The celestial movements of these bodies are thought to
impact the destiny. This is a science and has calculations and is believed to
be centuries old. There are rituals and calendars which talk about the
celestial movement of stars and hence the best time to begin or launch a new
task or a new project or undertake a journey. It also predicts seasonal
shifts, impacting agriculture, investments and weddings and births. The time
and death is also significant. Indians, Chinese and Mayans have culturally
attached significance to these calendars and predicted occurrence based on
them.
Rome, ancient Mesopotamia,
Greece and the Middle East also developed its own systems over time. The one
followed in the current modern world tries to define people and categorise into
personality types, behaviours, likes and dislikes etc. This makes reaching out
to people easier. Astrology is related to scholarly traditions like alchemy and
alternative medicine and is also mentioned in architecture and literature.
The horoscope or birth chart
defines the person it talks about. It has its own symbols much like alphabets
in a language. It is a road map and how we choose to walk on the path is our
own discretion. It should be used wisely but the ultimate decider is the person
himself or herself who has to decide the radical self-acceptance as dictated by
the stars or plates.
